India and China Agree to Withdraw Troops Amid Ongoing Border Dispute

Big news has emerged regarding the ongoing border dispute between India and China, as diplomatic talks yield positive results.

India and China have agreed to withdraw troops from the border to reduce tensions. They will also resume patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LoC), which had been suspended due to the conflict. India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, announced this development today.

The 16th BRICS Summit kicks off tomorrow in Russia, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending. Earlier reports suggested that both countries agreed to resolve the ongoing conflict, and the summit will take place on October 22 and 23.

Secretary Misri stated, “Following discussions in recent weeks, we have reached an agreement to facilitate patrolling in the India-China border area, promoting a reduction in tensions. We have also established a resolution to address the situation in the border regions since 2020.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping will also attend the BRICS summit. With both leaders present, there is potential for bilateral talks. When asked about this, Secretary Misri mentioned, “We have engaged in diplomatic and military discussions in recent weeks, coordinating on the timing and content of possible bilateral talks,” though he did not confirm if such discussions would occur.

Tensions have remained high since the deadly clash at Galwan Ghat in July 2020, intensifying the situation along the Line of Actual Control.
