India has emerged as a key player in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visits to Russia and Ukraine have underscored India’s commitment to peace in the region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, addressing the Eastern Economic Forum, acknowledged India’s potential role in mediating peace talks, alongside China and Brazil. Putin’s remarks come as Russia intensifies its efforts to occupy Ukraine’s Donbas region.

During his two-day visit to Russia last month, PM Modi emphasized the need for peace, stating, “Anywhere, the loss of innocent lives is not acceptable. We have to take the path of peace through dialogue.” His comments were seen as a clear message to Russia to seek a peaceful resolution.
In a reciprocal gesture, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed India as a host for a peace summit during PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine. Zelensky’s statement is being viewed as a significant diplomatic overture.

The first Ukraine Peace Summit was held in Switzerland in June, attended by over 90 countries. India’s potential role in hosting a future summit has raised hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
As the international community continues to seek an end to the war, India’s diplomatic efforts have positioned it as a crucial mediator in the Russia-Ukraine peace process.
