The state home department has suspended IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Bolna Rao, who is from the 2007 batch. This decision follows allegations of serious misconduct. Specifically, Rao reportedly entered the home of a woman inspector and caused a disturbance.
Initially, the home department launched a disciplinary investigation based on Rule-3 and Rule-18 of the Universal Service Rules-1969. Rao has been instructed to submit a written response within 30 days of receiving the notice.
The incident occurred on the night of July 27 when Rao visited the government quarters of a woman inspector working with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) at Unit-1. During this visit, Rao allegedly got into an argument with the inspector’s husband. As tensions escalated, the inspector contacted her brother around 9:17 PM. Subsequently, two police officers, including Sub-Inspector Pahya, arrived and escorted Rao away from the scene.
On July 29, Capital Police Station IIC Sudhanshu Bhushan Jena filed a confidential report with Bhubaneswar DCP, detailing the incident. Following this report, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi took immediate action, suspending Rao from his position as DIG of Home Guard and Fire Services.
Furthermore, sources within the Home Department suggest that the gravity of the allegations against Rao could result in even more severe consequences, potentially leading to his dismissal from service.
