Rajya Sabha member Jawahar Sarkar has resigned in protest of the recent brutality involving a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College Hospital. On Sunday, Sarkar announced his resignation and sent a formal letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating his decision to step down from his position.
In his resignation letter, Sarkar expressed frustration over the lack of immediate and decisive action by Banerjee. He had anticipated a swift and strong response, similar to her previous actions, but felt that any measures taken were both delayed and insufficient.
Sarkar’s resignation highlights growing public anger in Kolkata towards the Trinamool government, which he criticized for its handling of the situation and its tolerance of corruption. This move comes shortly after Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Shekhar Roy also voiced opposition to the RG tax scandal, reflecting increasing dissent within the party.
