The body of a 19-year-old woman, who went missing from Gunathirthavadi village in Bidar district, has been discovered with multiple injuries, leading Karnataka police to register a case of rape and murder.
Police arrested three men in connection with the crime, which allegedly took place on August 29. Authorities believe the woman was killed after being struck on the head with a stone, and her body was dumped in nearby bushes.
While investigators suspect sexual assault, they are awaiting confirmation from medical reports. The woman’s parents had reported her missing at Basavakalyan police station two days after her disappearance.
“We began investigating the missing person case and recovered her body on September 1,” a police official said. “The body showed multiple injuries, including head trauma. Initially, we registered a murder case with unknown suspects and pursued the case based on technical evidence.”
Officers tracked down three individuals who had contact with the victim on the day she disappeared, one of whom lived in her village. During interrogation, one suspect confessed to killing the woman and revealed that two others had assisted in the crime by keeping watch.
All three accused have been arrested, and charges of rape were added to the FIR based on the interrogation and evidence. The police are continuing their investigation as they await the victim’s medical report.
