Today a loud explosion occurred at the intersection of Blochmann St. and SN Banerjee Road in Kolkata, West Bengal. The Kolkata Police reported that the blast happened around 1:30 pm and was reported to them at 1:45 pm. A garbage collector sustained injuries from the explosion.
The police identified the explosion source as a suspicious bag. The man was attempting to lift the bag when it detonated. Authorities have transported the injured individual to NRS Hospital, where he received treatment for a wrist injury.
In response to the incident, police cordoned off the area with security tape and called in the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). The team is currently examining the bag and the surrounding area. Traffic resumed only after the BDDS gave their approval. The cause of the explosion remains unclear.
