Landslide in Tiruvannamalai District Leaves Seven People Trapped Ahead of Cyclone Fenglar

A landslide hit Tiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu on Sunday night, just before Cyclone Fenglar made its landfall. The landslide buried houses at the base of the hill, and authorities suspect that seven people from two families are trapped under the debris.

The district has been experiencing heavy rains due to Cyclone Fenglar. The landslide took place in BOC Nagar, located at the foothills of the Annamalaiyar Hills. District Collector D Vaskar Pandian confirmed that five children were among those trapped, but no trace of them has been found. Several houses were damaged in the disaster.

The district administration has launched a rescue operation, with residents being relocated to safer areas. Police, SDRF, and NDRF teams are working tirelessly to rescue the people buried under the soil.

In the meantime, Cyclone Fenglar has caused significant disruption. The rainfall in Puducherry on Saturday and Sunday broke a 30-year record. Although the cyclone weakened by Sunday, it continued to affect normal life with heavy rains in several areas. Roads became flooded, and the army stepped in to assist with rescue operations for the trapped people.
