A fatal road accident took place near Junei Bazar under Konark police station in Puri district late last night, when a car lost control and slammed into a mango tree, killing two people instantly. The driver sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Authorities identified the deceased as Pradeepta Behera from Bhubaneswar and Biswajit Sahu from Kantapada, Cuttack district. The injured driver, Tapas Sahu from Nuapatna village in Nyali block, is currently undergoing treatment.
Around 1:30 a.m., the car was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Konark when it veered off course near Junei Bazar and crashed into a mango tree. The impact crushed the car’s front, trapping everyone inside.
Locals immediately informed the fire department, who arrived promptly and used a gas cutter to free the bodies and the driver from the wreckage. Emergency responders transported them to the GOP Group Health Center. Due to the driver’s critical condition, they later referred him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for further treatment.
The police responded to the scene, seized the wrecked vehicle, and initiated an investigation into the accident.
