Manipur Internet Shut Down Amid Protests, Curfew Reinforced

Violence in Manipur has intensified, prompting ongoing protests throughout the state. To address the worsening law and order situation, the district magistrates of Imphal West and Imphal East imposed a curfew starting at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 10.

Following the Home Department’s orders, authorities shut down internet services across Manipur for five days to control escalating student protests.

On Monday, the district magistrates of Imphal East and Imphal West canceled the previous curfew relaxations (5 am to 10 pm) and enforced a complete curfew in both districts until further notice.

Authorities have allowed essential services to continue, including healthcare, municipal work, electricity, petrol stations, court operations, flight passenger movements, and media activities.

On Monday, hundreds of students protested in front of the Manipur Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Raj Bhavan in Imphal, opposing the rising violence. They regrouped at Ima Market (Nupi) on Tuesday.

Police are urging the students to return home. The students locked themselves on the market’s first floor, which remains closed due to the re-imposed curfew.
