Meteorological Department Warns of Severe Rainfall in Tamil Nadu

In one part of the country, winter approaches while another region experiences heavy rainfall. Chennai faces relentless rain, leading to blocked water tables in many districts. Consequently, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain.

In response to the severe weather, the state government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges. Today, institutions in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts will remain closed. Additionally, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has advised IT companies to allow employees to work from home until the 18th.

Across many districts in Tamil Nadu, rain has continued for the past 24 hours, following the formation of a low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Department warns that the impact of the rain will be particularly significant in North Tamil Nadu.

To ensure public safety, authorities have deployed 300 specially trained police personnel in the Talwa area. Municipal and emergency services have also been put on high alert.
