An unfortunate incident occurred at Maneswar Hatpada under Sadar police station in Sambalpur district, where a mother and daughter tragically lost their lives in a fire. Police are investigating whether a short circuit caused the fire or if foul play was involved. They identified the deceased as 90-year-old Snehalata Dixit and her 62-year-old daughter, Serendri Dixit.
The fire broke out on the top floor of their house in Hatpada last night while the mother and daughter were upstairs. Trapped by the sudden flames, Snehalata screamed for help. Neighbours heard the cries and quickly alerted the police and fire department. Firefighters arrived, extinguished the blaze, and rescued the daughter from the burning room. However, by that time, both women had tragically succumbed to the flames.
The ground floor of the house remained untouched, raising questions about how the fire started exclusively on the top floor. Police have begun an inquiry to determine if the cause was an electrical short circuit or if there might be another motive. Additionally, officers are investigating the family dynamics, including the whereabouts and relationships of any remaining family members to understand any possible links to the incident.
