New Zealand Parliament has seen strong chaos. Once again, the country’s youngest MP in Parliament, Hana-Rawhiti Kariyariki, has protested by performing the Mapi-Clark traditional dance. He also tore up a bill in the house.
Meanwhile, there was chaos in the New Zealand household. Hana-Rawhiti, along with other party MPs, danced with her and performed the traditional Haka dance of the Maori tribal community. Last year too, during his first speech in the House, Hana-Rawhiti came into the limelight by protesting in such a manner. The video of the commotion in Parliament yesterday is going viral on social media.
According to information, recently the governing party of New Zealand ACT has introduced a bill to change some of the policies in Waitangi. But this bill is opposed by the tribal communities of the country. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840 between the British Crown and Maori chiefs.
The treaty played a major role in shaping New Zealand’s constitution and policies. But the current government has introduced bills to make some changes to the agreement, which the Maori community has strongly opposed. 22-year-old MP Hana-Rawhiti also belongs to this community. So he strongly opposes the bill on behalf of the Maori.
While speaking in the House yesterday, he protested against the bill and tore up a paper of the bill. He also protested strongly by performing the Haka dance. A video of him performing a haka with other MPs and the audience sitting in the gallery is going viral on social media.
However, Hana-Rawhiti is New Zealand’s first-ever youngest MP. He was first elected to Parliament in 2023 at the age of 21.
