There is a threat of imposition of President’s rule in Delhi amid Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal being in jail over the alleged scam in the excise policy. However, the Aam Aadmi Party has repeatedly reiterated that CM Kejriwal is running the government from jail.
In the latest case, President Draupadi Murmu has sent a letter of BJP MLAs to the Home Ministry on Tuesday. Earlier, on August 30, BJP MLAs led by Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta met President Draupadi Murmu and submitted a memorandum to her. They had demanded the dismissal of the Delhi government, alleging that a constitutional crisis had arisen in Delhi.
He had said, “The administrative system in Delhi has become paralyzed. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail for more than four months on charges of the excise policy scam. Despite being in jail, Kejriwal has refused to resign, causing a constitutional crisis.
The BJP leader had further said, “The administrative system in Delhi has completely collapsed. There is a delay in taking important administrative decisions, affecting essential services. The AAP government is violating constitutional rules and traditions. The formation of the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission is pending since April 2021. Due to this, the Delhi Municipal Corporation is not getting funds as per the requirement.”
Vijendra Gupta had said, the Delhi government is not presenting 11 CAG reports in the assembly. The MLAs have also mentioned other allegations of corruption including the excise scam, corruption in the Delhi Jal Board in the memorandum. The Delhi government has been accused of deliberately obstructing the implementation of many welfare schemes of the central government. The BJP MLAs had said, “Due to the deteriorating state of governance in the capital, the facilities available to the citizens of Delhi are being disrupted.”
