Ram Rahim, currently serving a four-year sentence for molesting two disciples, has obtained parole 15 times, including three releases in the last nine months. On September 29, he submitted another application for parole, which the Election Commission reviewed due to the election code of conduct.
The Commission approved his parole but barred Ram Rahim from participating in the Haryana elections on October 5. Additionally, it prohibited him from engaging in social media campaigns or attending election rallies.
This pattern of receiving parole during elections is not new for Ram Rahim. He previously gained release before the Lok Sabha elections in January and during the 2022 Punjab assembly elections. Most recently, he secured a 21-day parole on August 13.
Currently, Ram Rahim remains in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak, Haryana. His two disciples, who appeared in court as victims, received 20-year sentences for their involvement in the incidents.
