Police arrested two sisters in East Delhi’s Basundhara enclave for reckless driving and causing disturbances. On Friday, the sisters threatened an elderly man and drove their car erratically around the campus, honking non-stop and damaging multiple lanes.
The sisters, Jain and Charvi, reportedly injured some neighbours who alerted the police. CCTV footage showed them speeding even in the presence of law enforcement. Less than a month prior, they assaulted a security guard in Jain’s apartment complex.
Late on Friday night, during an argument, the sisters sat in their car, honking continuously. Ashok Sharma, a 70-year-old retired police officer living in the complex, asked them to stop. In retaliation, they broke Mr Sharma’s flower pot and then barged into his house, threatening him with a knife.
Witnesses called the police, but the sisters barricaded themselves in their flat for hours until officers arrived. Upon exiting, they drove at high speed through the society, damaging multiple lanes and injuring some residents. They also rammed into a police barricade and broke the society’s barrier gate.
The police pursued their vehicle, which struck a scooter on the side of the road. Authorities apprehended the sisters near Noida Sector 20. Bhavya, 23, and Charvi, 21, are both graduates but do not hold jobs. They live with their mother, who is receiving cancer treatment at Dharamshila Narayan Hospital. Their father, Neeraj Jain, operates a printing press in Khalilganj, but they have no relationship with him.
