During the hearing of the rape and murder case involving a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Medical College, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud strongly criticized the West Bengal government and the police commissioner for their handling of the situation. The Supreme Court has also addressed the nationwide strike by doctors that followed the incident.
CJI Chandrachud’s bench has urged striking doctors across the country to return to work, emphasizing the importance of their trust in the judicial system. The bench assured that the safety and security of medical professionals are of paramount national concern.
In addition to addressing the immediate crisis, the Supreme Court proposed the formation of a national task force. This task force will develop guidelines to ensure the safety and protection of medical professionals throughout the country.
