An unfortunate incident in the Agalpur block area of Balangir district has sparked public outrage after a video surfaced showing a government official allegedly coercing a widow into a sexual relationship. When the video went viral, the woman raised objections but faced racial abuse and physical assault.
On Monday, she filed a complaint at Agalpur police station, demanding justice. The police registered her case under Case No. 186/24.
According to her complaint, about a year and a half ago, the official called her to the panchayat office to collect PDS rice. When she arrived, he exploited the empty office, luring her into a deserted room and engaging in non-consensual sexual acts. He secretly filmed the incident and later used this footage to blackmail her, repeatedly coercing her into further encounters. A few days ago, he summoned her again, but when he didn’t appear, he and an accomplice leaked the video of their prior encounter.
The victim discovered the leaked video on the 2nd of this month. When she confronted the official at the panchayat office, he verbally abused her, threatened her life, and showed no remorse. His accomplice then attacked her, striking her on the head with a car key, causing her to lose consciousness. A 108 Ambulance rushed her to Agalpur Community Health Center, and she was later transferred to Bhimvoi Medical Center in Balangir. After returning home from the hospital, she filed a police complaint.
Police officer Basudeb Bhoi confirmed that they have registered the case and are actively working to apprehend the two accused.
