State Rolls Out New Safety Guidelines for Health Care Workers and Institutions

The state introduced new guidelines to protect doctors, students, and health care workers.

The Health Department’s guidelines instruct medical institutions to install fencing, require all employees to carry ID cards, and enforce a specific dress code. They will provide separate duty and rest rooms for male and female doctors, and government medical colleges must ensure funding for these initiatives.

Institutions will issue visitor passes for indoor patients, and OPDs will have 24-hour security guards, with both male and female guards where possible.

Security guards will patrol the campus to prevent unauthorized visitors. They will install CCTV cameras at key areas, hostels, and entrances, along with panic buttons, emergency phones, and apps for quick emergency alerts. Authorities will act immediately if incidents occur.

These guidelines follow the brutal murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Center, which sparked nationwide protests and disrupted health services. The state government responded by implementing these safety measures for the health care sector.
