Teachers punishing students for not reading lessons or making mistakes isn’t uncommon. However, their punishment methods often draw criticism. A recent incident in Andhra Pradesh is a case in point.
A school teacher, allegedly with the help of a grandmother, cut the hair of 18 students for arriving late to the school assembly. This controversial punishment took place at the Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ School in Aluri Sitaramaraju district, Andhra Pradesh.
Reports claim that Sai Prasanna, a teacher responsible for the students’ safety, carried out the act. The students explained they were delayed due to water shortages in the hostel. However, Sai Prasanna ignored their reasons, cut their hair, and allegedly forced four students to stand in the rain after physically assaulting them.
She also warned the students against revealing the incident, but the truth came out when they informed their families. When questioned, Sai Prasanna defended her actions, stating that she aimed to instil discipline in the students.
