Farmers have once again taken to the road, heading to Delhi with their demands. Thousands of farmers set out today to continue their protest, which began on November 27 in the Greater Noida Authority. From November 28 to December 1, they protested at the Yamuna Authority, and now, on December 2, they are on their way to Delhi for the third and final stage of their movement.
The farmers are expected to gather near the Mahamaya flyover at noon before making their way to Delhi on tractors. To prevent the farmers from entering the city, the Delhi Police have implemented strict security measures at the Delhi border, erecting extensive barricades. Both Delhi and Gautam Buddh Nagar Police are investigating the situation. As a result, several routes between Delhi and Noida have been diverted to manage the flow of traffic.
Farmers from 20 districts, including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Agra, are joining the protest. They have outlined five main demands: first, 10% plots and 64.7% enhanced compensation for farmers affected under the old land acquisition law; second, market-rate compensation and 20% plot allocation for land acquired after January 1, 2014; third, employment and rehabilitation facilities for the children of homeless farmers; fourth, government orders addressing matters passed by the High Power Committee; and fifth, action on unresolved issues from previous meetings.
Yesterday, the farmers met with authorities for a three-hour discussion, but no positive resolution was reached. As a result, the farmers have decided to march to Delhi to fulfil their demands. In anticipation of their arrival, the Delhi-Noida border has been heavily fortified, and strict security measures are in place.
