Troop Withdrawal on the Horizon: India and China to Pull Back Forces by October 28-29

The tension that has been going on for the last few years between India and China on the border seems to be ending. After reaching an agreement on patrolling recently, the armies of both countries have also decided to withdraw from their respective positions.

News agency ANI quoted Indian Army sources as saying that the armies of both countries will completely withdraw by October 28-29. However, this agreement will apply only to Depsang and Demchok, not to other places.

According to sources, the soldiers of both countries will return to the situation before 2020. Also, there is an agreement on removing temporary structures from the border. Indian Army sources told the agency, ‘The recent agreement will apply only to Depsang and Demchok, not to other places. This agreement will not apply to other conflict areas.’

According to sources, ‘Troops from both sides will return to the pre-April 2020 position and they will patrol the areas where they patrolled till April 2020. Regular ground commanders’ meetings will continue to be held. A specific strength of troops has been identified in the patrol and to avoid any misunderstanding, we will inform each other when we are going to patrol.’

Sources said, ‘All temporary infrastructure like sheds or tents and soldiers will be removed. Both sides will keep a watch on the area. The patrolling points in Depsang and Demchok will be the points where traditional patrolling was done before April 2020.
