With just eight weeks remaining until the U.S. election, both parties have entered the final stages of their preparations. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump engaged in the much-anticipated presidential debate last Tuesday. Although Harris is open to another round, Trump has declined.
Trump expressed on social media that Harris’s eagerness for a second debate signifies her loss, stating she’s now trying to recover her standing.
In the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Harris and Trump debated on key issues including abortion, war, the economy, and the housing crisis. Their handshake at the start marked the end of an eight-year tradition of candidates not shaking hands on stage.
Trump declared his victory, asserting, “I clearly won Tuesday’s heated debate,” adding that a third debate is unnecessary. The American media, however, presented different perspectives. A CNN poll showed Harris as the debate winner with 63% support, while YouGov placed her ahead by 43% to Trump’s 28%.
Harris highlighted the financial boost she received, raising $47 million within 24 hours of the debate.
As the election approaches, both candidates are sharpening their focus. Harris is appealing to middle-class voters and targeting Trump on issues like abortion, while Trump accuses Harris of having no original plan, merely copying Biden’s policies.
