UP Women’s Commission Proposes Women-Only Tailors and Stylists to Prevent Misconduct

The Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission has proposed that only women should sew women’s clothes and cut their hair to protect them from inappropriate touch and prevent potential misconduct by men.

Sharing details, Himani Agarwal, a member of the Women’s Commission, stated that during a meeting on October 28, Chairperson Babita Chauhan suggested that female tailors should be the only ones measuring and sewing clothes for women, with CCTV installed in tailoring shops for added security. This proposal received unanimous support from all commissioners present.

Agarwal further explained that the commission recommended that only female stylists should cut women’s hair in salons, as the presence of men in these roles can sometimes lead to misconduct. While they acknowledge that not all male tailors and stylists have bad intentions, the commission views this as a precautionary step.

The commission intends to submit a request to the state government to enact these suggestions into law, aiming to ensure a safer environment for women.
