A stone pelter was shot dead while disposing of Durga Puja idols in Uttar Pradesh. A 22-year-old man, Ram Gopal Mishra, lost his life, and many others sustained injuries during the chaos. As tensions escalated, police arrived on the scene, detaining 30 individuals and launching an investigation.
After ten days of festivities, a procession took place in Bahraich for idol disposal. During the procession near Maharajganj Bazar, a group of youths began playing music, leading to an altercation between two factions. The situation quickly intensified as stone-pelting erupted, and shots were fired.
Ram Gopal sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to his wounds, according to family members. In the aftermath, angry protesters set fire to shops and motorcycles.
Police responded promptly, interrogating witnesses and detaining 30 suspects. They arrested a youth named Salman after footage revealed him firing the weapon that struck Ram Gopal.
In response, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and vowed that the perpetrators would face severe consequences. He emphasized that those disrupting law and order in the district would be held accountable, and strict actions would be taken against negligent officials.
