Voting is underway for the by-elections in nine assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh, including the Mirapur seat in Muzaffarnagar. During this time, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has raised a serious complaint. He alleged that voters were being prevented from casting their votes in several areas during the by-elections. Akhilesh shared a video on social media showing police officers threatening voters with guns in the Kakaroli police station area of Mirapur.
Akhilesh Yadav posted the video, demanding immediate action from the Election Commission. He called for the suspension of the SHO of Mirapur police station, accusing him of intimidating voters and preventing them from voting. The video shows a police officer holding a gun and stopping some women voters, questioning why they cannot vote. Despite their protests, the police force is seen forcing them to return home.
In a press conference, Akhilesh accused the BJP of creating irregularities in the polls out of fear of losing. He also criticized the Election Commission, stating that there were issues with agent registrations in the morning, but Socialist Party workers were still able to take responsibility as agents despite repeated attempts by the police to block them. Akhilesh mentioned that multiple complaints had been raised during polling, particularly from Mirapur Assembly to Mirzapur.
Earlier, a significant disturbance occurred during the by-election polling in Mirapur seat, when some people started throwing stones at the police in Kakaroli. The police, however, chased away the rioters and restored order.
