In a response to a question raised by Dharamasala MLA Himanshu Sahu in the state assembly on Wednesday, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling revealed that the state’s healthcare system is facing significant challenges, including a severe shortage of doctors and para-medical staff.
According to Mahaling, 90% of the existing Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) in the state lack facilities as per Indian Public Health Standards. This shortage has made it impossible to upgrade the Dharamchaya Deerbandh PHC to a CHC, the minister clarified.
The health minister’s statement comes amid concerns raised by the MLA about the need to enhance healthcare facilities in the region. However, Mahaling emphasized that the state’s priority is to address the staff shortage and improve the overall healthcare infrastructure before considering upgrades.
