IPS Ashish Singh has taken up central deputation and will now serve as the IG of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) for five years or until further notice. The Union Home Ministry has informed the State Chief Administrative Secretary about his appointment.
During the last general election, the Central BJP accused Ashish Singh of favoring the ruling party. Responding to these allegations, the Election Commission of India (ECI) removed him from his role as Central Range IG on April 5 and reassigned him as IG-CM Security. Critics further accused him of devising strategies for the BJP’s election campaign.
While on medical leave, the ECI directed a health review of Ashish Singh. A special medical board at Bhubaneswar AIIMS confirmed that he had falsified his medical leave claims. Acting on this report, the ECI instructed the Chief Administrative Secretary to take action. Consequently, the state government reassigned Ashish Singh to the role of OSD in the Home Department.
